The first member of his family to graduate college, Julian Acosta attended Brigham Young University where his education opened his eyes to possibility and catapulted him into the world of filmmaking. His spiky aggression and teenage earnestness matured into a signature poetic realist filmmaking style.
Before joining Wild Gift Content in 2024, Julian directed music videos and commercial campaigns at RSA Films and The Directors Bureau. His work highlights include spots for Samsung, VW, Powerade, Bose and Delta Air Lines, among others. His passion in music burned brightly while directing music videos and music documentaries for John Legend and The Roots, The Beach Boys, Passion Pit, MIA, Foster the People, Ellie Goulding, Shins and many others.
Julian’s short film What Bitch? screened at festivals before getting picked up by HBO. His most recent film is one short in The Seven Faces of Jane, produced by Roman Coppola. The Seven Faces of Jane is comprised of eight short films from eight different directors all following a woman named Jane on a life-changing road trip. The films showcase different styles and interpretations of Jane in each director’s unique voice. Gillian Jacobs stars as Jane, and directs one of the segments, along with Julian, and directors Xan Cassavetes, Ken Jeong, Gia Coppola, Boma Iluma, Ryan Heffington and Alex Takacs. And Julian is currently directing episodes of Cuba-set “Coolie,” an 8-part limited series.
