A masterful director, writer and producer, Michael Mann helped define the modern-day thriller with his trademark atmospheric visuals, hand-held camera and powerful dramatic performances. He also is a prolific commercial director, having directed memorable spots for Nike, Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, Sprint, Ferrari and AT&T. He began his career in the late ‘70s after studying at London’s International Film School and quickly distinguished himself as a standout talent writing for TV shows like “Starsky and Hutch” and directing his first film, the TV prison drama The Jericho Mile which won a DGA award. His long list of hits includes movies such as Heat, Ali, Public Enemies, Collateral, The Insider, Miami Vice,The Last of the Mohicans, Manhunter and Thief. An epic list of TV credits includes iconic ‘80s series “Miami Vice” and 1990’s EMMY Award-winning mini-series “Drug Wars: The Camarena Story.” Mann is a four-time Academy Award nominee, a winner of multiple EMMYs, WGA and PGA honors, a BAFTA as producer on The Aviator and a DGA honor. His most recent project is “Tokyo Vice,” an HBO Max drama series (with Japanese partner Wowow) which Mann is executive producing. He is also directing the pilot.
