Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is a two-time Academy Award® and seven-time Emmy®-winning documentarian, journalist, filmmaker, and humanitarian. Last summer she made her narrative directorial debut with Marvel’s highly acclaimed, MS. MARVEL. The series featured Marvel’s first primarily south-Asian cast and notably, its first lead Muslim character. Obaid-Chinoy infused MS. MARVEL with her signature style and verisimilitude she brings to her nonfiction projects, directing the pivotal fourth and fifth episodes of the series. Most widely known for her Oscar®-winning documentary shorts: SAVING FACE and A GIRL IN THE RIVER: THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS, Obaid-Chinoy has dedicated her career to shining a light on complex sociopolitical issues and has established herself a reputation for spotlighting women. More recently, she has been hard at work on a documentary of which Diane von Furstenberg is the focus. She will also direct Paramount’s BRILLIANCE, based on the Marcus Sakey novel of the same name.
